José Lux has been hand-finishing men's silver pendants for over a decade. The crucifix is one of the oldest and most worn forms in men's jewelry. This version is plain 925 sterling silver — no stones, no icing. The design carries its weight through sculpt quality: a three-dimensional Jesus corpus on the cross, INRI inscription at the top arm, ornate trefoil cluster caps at every arm end, and a milgrain border that traces the full cross profile. All of it in high-polish rhodium plated white gold.

At 4.2cm tall and 2.9cm wide, this pendant has the proportions of a crucifix that reads clearly at a normal wear distance. It's not oversized. It's not miniature. It's a piece that can be worn under a shirt or over one, with a crew neck or with an open collar, every day or on specific occasions — without the scale making that decision for you.

The pendant ships with a box chain — 55cm (21.6 in), 925 sterling silver, rhodium plated to match. At 55cm, the crucifix sits at mid-chest: the standard wear position for a cross pendant at this scale, visible above most crew necks and centered on the chest under an open collar.

The Crucifix Pendant — Sculpt and Design Detail

The crucifix cross is built on a solid 925 sterling silver frame. The arm surfaces carry a flat high-polish face with a fine milgrain border running along both edges of every arm — a row of tiny textured beads that traces the full cross outline from arm tip to arm tip. The milgrain border is a traditional silversmith detail that defines the cross edge cleanly without adding bulk.

The Jesus corpus is sculpted in three dimensions and sits raised above the cross face. The figure carries full body detail: defined torso anatomy, draped cloth at the waist, extended arms along the horizontal arm of the cross, and foot detail at the lower arm. The corpus is not stamped flat — it projects forward from the cross surface and creates visible depth and shadow across the figure. That three-dimensional quality is what separates a sculpted crucifix from a pressed one.

At the top of the vertical arm, directly above the corpus, is the INRI inscription tablet — raised in silver with the lettering in relief. The tablet sits within a defined frame and reads clearly at normal viewing distance.

The arm ends carry ornate trefoil cluster caps — three-lobed decorative terminals at each of the four arm tips, including the top arm above the INRI tablet. Each cap is diamond-cut across its surface, creating a textured finish that catches and scatters light differently from the polished cross face. The trefoil caps are a traditional crucifix design element rooted in Catholic and Orthodox ecclesiastical jewelry — the three-lobed form references the Holy Trinity. At this scale, they also function to widen the visual weight of each arm tip and give the cross a more ornate, finished silhouette.

The bail above the cross is a round loop — simple, clean, no stone coverage. The loop passes through the top arm of the cross and connects to the box chain. The loop diameter is sized to work with the box chain links and allows the pendant to hang flat and centered on the neck.

The Metal and Plating

The pendant and chain are 925 sterling silver — 92.5% pure silver, 7.5% copper for structural strength. For a sculpted pendant at this scale with fine milgrain border detail and three-dimensional corpus relief, the 925 alloy is what keeps the cast detail sharp through daily wear. Pure silver at this level of surface detail would soften over time.

Every piece gets a rhodium plated white gold finish applied by hand at our Vietnam workshop. Not machine-dipped. The pendant has complex surface variation: the high-polish cross face, the milgrain border edges, the raised corpus, the INRI tablet, and the diamond-cut trefoil caps all require different plating coverage. Hand application adjusts to each surface zone. Machine dipping applies uniform coverage that leaves thin spots on interior relief details and the milgrain bead points.

Rhodium is harder than gold and sits as a barrier between the silver and the air. The finish keeps the pendant and chain bright white and mirror-clean through daily wear. Conservative baseline: three years of regular daily wear before any fading is noticeable. Many José Lux customers re-plate after five years. The longest we've recorded: eight years of daily wear before the first re-plate.

Re-plating is always free at the José Lux workshop. No time limit. No conditions.

The Clasp — Hand-Finished Lobster Claw

The lobster claw clasp on this chain is hand-crafted and hand-finished at the José Lux workshop in Vietnam. The spring mechanism engages cleanly and holds under daily wear. It doesn't rattle. It doesn't open unexpectedly. Single-hand operation: press the lever, hook the ring, release. Easy to remove when you need to clean the chain or the pendant. Easy to unhook from the bail loop when you want to swap the crucifix to a different chain. Every clasp is tested before the necklace ships.

Care

The rhodium plated white gold finish protects the silver surface on both the pendant and chain. Avoid prolonged exposure to chlorine (pools, hot tubs), bleach, strong household cleaners, and perfume applied directly to the piece. These accelerate finish wear.

For the pendant: the milgrain border and the corpus relief collect residue between the raised detail points over time. A soft brush with warm water and a drop of mild dish soap, worked carefully across the cross face, along the milgrain border, and across the corpus and INRI tablet. Pay attention to the trefoil cap surfaces where the diamond-cut texture holds residue. Rinse thoroughly. Air dry fully. Monthly cleaning keeps the polished face bright and the relief detail clear.

The polishing cloth José Lux includes with every order handles light surface residue on the chain and the flat cross face between deeper cleans.

Warranty

José Lux's goal is simple: your pendant and chain should last as long as you want to wear them.

Rhodium re-plating: always free at the José Lux workshop. No time limit. The finish fades over years of daily wear — that's expected. When it does, we re-plate at no charge.

Pendant integrity: a solid 925 sterling silver crucifix at this scale and weight is a structurally robust piece. Corpus displacement or milgrain border damage from normal daily wear is extremely rare. If it occurs without impact damage, José Lux assesses and repairs it.

What's not covered: visible physical damage from hard impact — corpus deformation from a drop, trefoil cap damage from a strike. José Lux inspects each case individually and communicates honestly. If a repair falls outside the warranty, we quote the cost clearly before any work is done.

Our Workshop

Our workshop is in Vietnam. The artisans who finish this crucifix and apply the rhodium plating have been doing this work for years. Every clasp is adjusted at the bench. Every pendant is inspected before it ships.

A plain silver crucifix reads through finish quality alone — there are no stones to catch light and compensate for a weak polish or an uneven plate. The high-polish cross face has to be consistent. The milgrain border has to trace the cross outline without gaps or compressed bead points. The corpus surface has to carry clean relief detail across the figure anatomy. The trefoil cap diamond-cut texture has to be consistent across all four caps. The rhodium has to cover all of it — the flat faces, the milgrain points, the raised corpus, the interior of the INRI frame — without pooling in the recesses or thinning on the raised ridges. José Lux has been doing this long enough to know where the work shows and to make sure it shows correctly.

Your Necklace Arrives Protected — Two-Layer Box Packaging, USPS Insured

Your necklace ships in two layers of packaging. The inner box holds the chain and pendant securely in place. The outer box protects everything during transit. On top of that, the necklace itself is wrapped in a shock-absorbing layer before it goes into the box — so there's no movement, no impact damage, nothing shifts in transit.

Shipping is via USPS with 100% jewelry insurance on every order. If something goes wrong in transit — lost, delayed, damaged — we cover it. Even if an address was entered incorrectly at checkout, José Lux refunds you in full. You either receive your necklace in perfect condition, or you get your money back. That's the José Lux standard.

Free USPS to the United States and Europe. Tracking sent the day your order ships. Estimated delivery 7–14 business days. European orders can encounter customs delays — José Lux states that upfront rather than promise a window we can't control.

A silver polishing cloth and a José Lux warranty card from the workshop are included with every order.

FAQ

What is a crucifix pendant?

A crucifix is a cross with a sculpted figure of Jesus Christ on it — as opposed to a plain cross, which carries no figure. This pendant is a crucifix: a 925 sterling silver cross with a three-dimensional Jesus corpus raised above the cross face, an INRI inscription tablet at the top arm, ornate trefoil cluster caps at all four arm ends, and a fine milgrain border tracing the full cross outline. Plain silver throughout — no stones. The pendant reads through its sculpt quality, not through stone coverage.

What does INRI mean?

INRI is the Latin abbreviation for Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum — Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. It's the inscription Pontius Pilate ordered placed above Jesus on the cross during the crucifixion, as described in the Gospel of John. In crucifix jewelry, the INRI tablet is placed at the top of the vertical arm above the corpus. On this pendant it appears as raised lettering in relief within a defined frame.

What are the trefoil caps at the arm ends?

The trefoil caps are the three-lobed ornamental terminals at each of the four arm tips of the cross. Each cap is a cluster of three rounded lobes with a diamond-cut texture across the surface. The three-lobed form has a long history in ecclesiastical jewelry design — the trilobate shape references the Holy Trinity in Catholic and Orthodox tradition. At this pendant scale, the caps also serve to widen the visual weight of each arm end and give the cross a more ornate, traditional silhouette compared to a plain-tipped cross.

Is there any stone setting on this pendant?

No. This is a plain 925 sterling silver crucifix — no stones, no CZ, no pave. The pendant carries all of its visual detail through the sculpted corpus, the INRI tablet, the milgrain border, and the diamond-cut trefoil caps. Men who buy this pendant are looking for a traditional silver crucifix, not an iced piece. If you want a stone-set cross pendant, José Lux has other options in the collection.

Why 55cm and is that right for me?

55cm is approximately 21.6 inches — mid-chest pendant position on most men. For a crucifix at 4.2cm tall, mid-chest positioning keeps the pendant visible above a crew neck and centered on the chest under an open collar. Every customer at José Lux has been satisfied with this length for a crucifix pendant. If you want to confirm before ordering, message us directly.

Why a lobster claw clasp?

For a pendant necklace at this weight, a lobster claw clasp is the most reliable close. Single-hand operation — press the lever, hook, release. Easy to remove for cleaning. Easy to unhook from the bail loop to swap the pendant to a different chain. José Lux hand-finishes every lobster claw clasp at the Vietnam workshop and tests it before the necklace ships.

How does the rhodium plating work and how long does it last?

Hand-applied at our Vietnam workshop — not machine-dipped. The pendant has multiple surface types: the polished cross face, the milgrain border edges, the raised corpus relief, the INRI tablet, and the diamond-cut trefoil caps. Hand plating adjusts coverage to each zone. Rhodium is harder than gold and keeps the piece bright white through daily wear. Conservative baseline: three years. Many customers re-plate after five years. The longest we've recorded: eight years before the first re-plate. Re-plating is always free at the José Lux workshop — no time limit.

How does shipping work?

Free USPS to the United States and Europe. Tracking sent the day your order ships. Estimated 7–14 business days. European orders can see customs delays — José Lux states that honestly rather than promise a window we can't control. Every shipment is 100% insured. If something goes wrong in transit, including an incorrect delivery address, a full refund is issued.

Where is this pendant made?

Handmade at the José Lux workshop in Vietnam. The artisans who finish the corpus detail, apply the rhodium plating across multiple surface zones, and hand-finish the clasp have been doing this work for years. A sculpted crucifix reads through its finish quality — the polish on the cross face, the sharpness of the milgrain border, the clarity of the corpus detail and the INRI lettering. That's what the workshop produces on every piece before it ships.
