José Lux has been hand-finishing men's silver chains for over a decade. The Curb chain is one of the foundational chain patterns — oval interlocked links, uniformly twisted so they lie flat in a continuous line, high-polish across every link face. It's a chain that men have worn for generations precisely because it works without requiring explanation. The Curb chain doesn't demand attention. It wears clean and stays out of the way of whatever else you're wearing.

This is a plain chain. No stone, no pendant. 925 sterling silver throughout, with a rhodium plated white gold finish hand-applied at our Vietnam workshop. At 4mm wide and 50cm (19.7 in), it sits at collarbone level on most men — the standard wear position for a Curb chain that reads clean under a crew neck, against an open collar, or as a base chain for a pendant. The high-polish link faces catch and reflect direct light every time the chain moves.
The Curb Chain — What It Is and How It Wears
Curb chain is built from oval links, each one uniformly twisted at a consistent angle so that every link lies flat in the same plane as the one before it. When the chain hangs on the neck, all link faces point outward in the same direction and catch light consistently along the full length. That uniform face orientation is what makes a Curb chain read as a single continuous line of reflected light rather than as a series of individual links catching light at random angles.

At 4mm, this chain has presence on the neck without reading as a statement piece. It's wide enough to be visible at a normal viewing distance and slim enough to wear under a shirt collar without bulk. The link profile at 4mm is the most versatile width for a Curb chain: it works standalone as a everyday chain, works as a base for a pendant without the pendant competing with the chain visually, and works layered with other chains without dominating the stack.

The high-polish rhodium finish on each link face is what gives the Curb chain its light response. When the chain moves on the neck — which it does constantly, following the body — the link faces shift angle relative to the light source and the chain alternates between full reflection and shadow. That movement quality is why men who wear Curb chains keep coming back to them. The chain is always doing something visually, even when you're not paying attention to it.
The Metal and Plating
The chain is 925 sterling silver — 92.5% pure silver, 7.5% copper for structural strength. A Curb chain flexes with every movement of the neck and body. The copper content in 925 is what keeps the link joints from loosening under that constant flex stress over time. Pure silver at this construction would gradually deform at the link joints and the chain would develop visible slack.

Every chain gets a rhodium plated white gold finish applied by hand at our Vietnam workshop. Not machine-dipped. The artisans doing this work have been plating silver for years. Hand application gives more even coverage across the high-polish link faces, the link edge profiles, and the joint points between links — the detail areas where machine dipping leaves inconsistent thickness that shows as dull patches in direct light.
Rhodium is harder than gold and sits as a barrier between the silver and the air. The finish keeps the chain bright white and mirror-clean through daily wear. Conservative baseline: three years of regular daily wear before any fading is noticeable. Many José Lux customers re-plate after five years. The longest we've recorded: eight years of daily wear before the first re-plate. Skin chemistry, wear frequency, and chemical exposure all affect the timeline.
Re-plating is always free at the José Lux workshop. No time limit. No conditions. Whenever the finish needs refreshing, we handle it.
The Clasp — Hand-Finished S-Hook
The clasp on this chain is an S-hook — hand-crafted and hand-finished at the José Lux workshop in Vietnam. Not sourced from a components rack. Built and adjusted for this chain specifically.

An S-hook done correctly is one of the most reliable closures for a Curb chain at this width. The hook engages the terminal link with enough tension to stay closed through daily movement. It doesn't spring open. It doesn't rattle against the link. When you want to take it off, a slight flex on the hook releases it from the link — clean, fast, one-hand operation. No fiddling with a spring mechanism.
The S-hook also makes pendant swapping clean: unhook from the bail loop with a single motion, swap pendant, hook back in. Faster than a lobster claw for everyday pendant changes.
Every hook is tested at the workshop before the chain ships. If it doesn't hold to our satisfaction, we adjust it. If it can't be adjusted, the clasp is replaced. You don't receive a chain with a clasp we're not confident in.
Care
The rhodium plated white gold finish protects the silver surface and keeps the chain bright. Avoid prolonged exposure to chlorine (pools, hot tubs), bleach, strong household cleaners, and perfume applied directly to the chain. These accelerate finish wear.
For daily maintenance: a soft cloth wipe after wearing is enough. The high-polish link faces of a Curb chain show skin oil residue more readily than a textured chain — a quick wipe after wearing keeps the faces reflective. The polishing cloth José Lux includes with every order handles this in under a minute.
For a deeper clean: warm water, a drop of mild dish soap, soft brush along the link faces and through the joint points, rinse thoroughly, pat dry, air dry fully before storing.
Warranty
José Lux's goal is simple: your chain should last as long as you want to wear it.
Rhodium re-plating is always free at the José Lux workshop. No time limit. No conditions. The finish fades over years of daily wear — that's expected. When it does, José Lux re-plates it at no charge.
Clasp: if the S-hook fails under normal daily wear — no impacts, no bending from force — José Lux repairs or replaces it. Contact the workshop with a description and we handle it.
Chain integrity: Curb chain at 4mm in 925 sterling silver is a mechanically robust construction. Link joint failure from normal daily wear is extremely rare. If a joint fails without a hard pull or impact, José Lux assesses and repairs it.
What's not covered: visible physical damage from a hard pull, kink, or impact — Curb chains can deform at a single link if pulled sharply at that point. We inspect each case and communicate what we observe. If a repair falls outside the warranty, we quote the cost clearly before any work is done.

Our Workshop
Our workshop is in Vietnam. The artisans who hand-plate this chain and hand-finish the clasp have been doing this work for years. Every clasp is adjusted at the bench. Every chain is inspected before it ships.

A Curb chain at 4mm reads through its finish. The link faces are high-polish — any inconsistency in the rhodium coverage shows in direct light as a dull patch against the surrounding mirror surface. The link joint points between links have to be covered evenly without excess plating that creates visible ridges. The clasp has to sit flush with the terminal link without a visible height difference. José Lux has been doing this long enough to know where cheaper Curb chains fail — uneven plating that reads as variation in the link faces under direct light, clasp terminations that sit proud of the chain, joint points that hold residue because the plating is thin there. Ours don't have those problems. Because the work is done correctly from the start.
Your Chain Arrives Protected — Two-Layer Box Packaging, USPS Insured

Your chain ships in two layers of packaging. The inner box holds the chain securely in place. The outer box protects everything during transit. On top of that, the chain itself is wrapped in a shock-absorbing layer before it goes into the box — so there's no movement, no impact damage, nothing shifts in transit.
Shipping is via USPS with 100% jewelry insurance on every order. If something goes wrong in transit — lost, delayed, damaged — we cover it. Even if an address was entered incorrectly at checkout, José Lux refunds you in full. You either receive your chain in perfect condition, or you get your money back. That's the José Lux standard.
Free USPS to the United States and Europe. Tracking sent the day your order ships. Estimated delivery 7–14 business days. European orders can encounter customs delays — José Lux states that upfront rather than promise a window we can't control.
A silver polishing cloth and a José Lux warranty card from the workshop are included with every order.
FAQ
What is a curb chain and how is it different from a Cuban Link?
Both are interlocked flat-face link chains, but they're different in link shape and visual character. A Curb chain uses oval links, each twisted uniformly so they lie flat in the same plane — the links have a rounded profile and a smooth edge. A Cuban Link uses wider, flat-faced links with a more pronounced diamond-cut texture and a heavier visual weight per link. At 4mm, a Curb chain reads as clean and refined. A Cuban Link at the same width reads as more structured and textured. They suit different aesthetics. Men who buy Curb chains often want the continuous line of reflected light without the graphic weight of a Cuban Link.
Why 4mm and is that the right width for me?
4mm is the most versatile width for a Curb chain. It's wide enough to be clearly visible on any neck profile at normal viewing distance — not a delicate chain that disappears. It's slim enough to wear under a shirt collar without bulk and to layer with other chains without dominating the stack. Men who want a Curb chain that reads as a statement piece typically go to 6mm or wider. Men who want one that reads as a refined daily chain — present but not loud — land at 4mm. Every customer at José Lux has been satisfied with this width. If you want to confirm before ordering, message us directly.
Why 50cm and is that right for me?
50cm is approximately 19.7 inches — collarbone level on most men. That's the standard wear position for a Curb chain at this width: visible above a crew neck when you want it, settled against the collarbone under an open collar. It works as a standalone chain and as a base for a pendant. Every customer at José Lux has been satisfied with this length. If you want to confirm before ordering, message us directly.
Why S-hook instead of lobster claw?
For a Curb chain at 4mm and 50cm, an S-hook done correctly is a more direct close than a lobster claw. The hook engages the terminal link with tension that holds under normal daily movement. Single-hand removal is faster than a lobster claw — a slight flex releases it immediately without pressing a spring lever. The S-hook is also faster for pendant swapping: unhook from a bail loop in one motion. José Lux hand-crafts and adjusts each S-hook at the Vietnam workshop for this chain specifically and tests it before it ships.
Can I wear a pendant on this chain?
Yes. The S-hook clasp engages pendant bail loops cleanly, and the 4mm Curb chain provides enough structure to carry most pendant sizes without the pendant visually competing with the chain. The chain reads as a background element when a pendant is on it — which is the correct function of a 4mm chain. If you want the chain to read as a statement piece alongside a pendant, go wider. At 4mm, the chain supports the pendant rather than sharing focus with it.
How does the rhodium plating work and how long does it last?
Hand-applied at our Vietnam workshop — not machine-dipped. The high-polish link faces of a Curb chain require even coverage without pooling at the link joints or thinning on the face centers. Hand application adjusts to each surface zone consistently across the full chain length. Rhodium is harder than gold and keeps the chain bright white through daily wear. Conservative baseline: three years. Many customers re-plate after five years. The longest we've recorded: eight years before the first re-plate. Re-plating is always free at the José Lux workshop — no time limit.
How does shipping work?
Free USPS to the United States and Europe. Tracking sent the day your order ships. Estimated 7–14 business days. European orders can see customs delays — José Lux states that honestly rather than promise a window we can't control. Every shipment is 100% insured. If something goes wrong in transit, including an incorrect delivery address, a full refund is issued.
Where is this chain made?
Handmade at the José Lux workshop in Vietnam. The artisans who hand-finish the clasp and plate this chain have been doing this work for years — longer than most men's jewelry brands have been selling online. A Curb chain reads through finish quality: the polish on the link faces and the consistency of the plating from one end to the other. That's what the workshop produces on every chain before it ships.
