A huggie hoop is a different earring than a stud. The stone work on the outside face and the hoop mechanism on the inside are two separate engineering problems that have to coexist in the same piece. José Lux has built both stud settings and hoop mechanisms at our Vietnam workshop. A huggie hoop that looks right from the front but opens and closes poorly is a daily annoyance. A hoop with a good click mechanism but uneven stone rows reads wrong. Both have to work correctly.

These are wide-band CZ huggie hoops. The band is wide enough to carry two parallel rows of Swiss CZ round brilliant stones across the full outer face. That double-row face is what you see in the product shots: a rectangular field of white CZ stones that catches light across its full width as well as its length. From the front, it reads as a bright stone-set band sitting against the lobe. The hoop body closes behind the lobe. In the lifestyle shots, you see exactly how the hoops sit: snug, level, and fully stone-covered on the face.
The closure is a hinged snap mechanism. One side of the hoop has a hinge. The other has a snap post that clicks into a receiving socket. Open the hoop, pass the post through the piercing, close the hoop until the snap seats. The mechanism can be released for cleaning or removal. The full inner surface of the hoop is smooth — no stones inside, no texture against the skin. One pair. Two earrings.
The Swiss CZ Stones — Double-Row Setting
Every stone in this earring is Swiss CZ — cubic zirconia sourced and cut to Swiss standards. Lab-created zirconium dioxide. Not Moissanite. Not diamond. José Lux states that plainly because you should know what you’re buying.

The outer face of the hoop band carries two parallel rows of Swiss CZ round brilliants running the full length of the stone-set section. Both rows are the same stone size. The stones in each row are evenly spaced. The two rows are aligned so each stone in the front row sits between two stones in the back row — a staggered offset that maximizes stone coverage across the band width and reduces the visible metal between rows.
Each stone is individually prong-set. This is not a pave setting. In pave, micro stones share prong tips and sit flush with the metal. In this earring, each stone sits in its own seat with its own prong tips above the metal surface. The stones are large enough relative to the band width that individual prong setting is the correct method. The result is a fuller, more dimensional stone face than pave would produce at this band width — the stones stand up from the surface rather than sitting flush with it.
Swiss CZ returns clean white brilliance in directional light. No rainbow color scatter — that’s Moissanite’s optical signature. CZ gives sharp white flashes. On a double-row hoop worn at the lobe, the two rows of stones catch light from different angles simultaneously as the earring moves. The result is a stone face that reads as bright and active even in ambient light. The lifestyle shots show this clearly: both rows visible, both rows flashing, the full band width reading as stone, not metal.
The Huggie Hoop Band — Width, Fit, and Proportions
A huggie hoop is defined by its fit: it sits snug against the lobe rather than hanging below it or extending out from it. The hoop diameter is small. The band width is the dominant visual dimension. This earring has a wide band relative to its hoop diameter. That proportion is what creates the rectangular bar appearance visible in the lifestyle shots.

From the front, the earring reads as a wide stone-set rectangle sitting at the lobe. The hoop body behind the lobe is smooth and compact. The total profile from ear to outer face is low. There’s no swing or movement — a huggie hoop stays level and flush against the ear throughout the day, unlike a drop or dangle earring that shifts with head movement. That stability is part of why huggie hoops are suited to daily wear and active wear.
The inner circumference of the hoop is smooth 925 sterling silver with the rhodium plated finish. No stones, no texture, no edges against the skin or the piercing. The inner surface is curved to follow the lobe’s natural profile. The band’s width sits parallel to the lobe surface when the earring is closed, not angled away from it. That parallel sit is visible in the profile shots: the stone face reads fully face-on, not tilted.
The side profile images show the hoop body clearly: the full circular cross-section of the hoop, the hinge point at the top, the snap post at the bottom of the opening, and the stone-set outer face visible on the right side. The inner diameter is sized to fit close to the lobe without pressing against it. A huggie hoop that’s too tight presses the lobe. One that’s too loose hangs and doesn’t sit flush. José Lux sizes these to sit snug without constriction.
The Hinged Snap Closure — How It Works and Why It Holds
The closure on a huggie hoop is mechanically different from a stud’s screw-back or push-back. The hoop body is cut at one point in its circumference to create a gap. One side of the gap has a hinge — a pivot point that allows the hoop to open and close. The other side has a snap post: a short pin that passes through the piercing when the earring is being put on, then clicks into a receiving socket in the opposite side of the hoop body when the hoop is closed.

To put the earring on: open the hoop at the snap point. The hinge allows the two halves to separate. Pass the snap post through the piercing. Bring the hoop body together until the snap post seats into its socket. You’ll hear and feel a click when it’s properly engaged. The snap holds the hoop closed mechanically. It does not depend on spring tension alone — the post engages into a socket, which is a more secure hold than a simple friction-close mechanism.
To remove: press the snap release point — the area adjacent to the hinge, visible in the product shots — which disengages the socket and allows the hoop to open. The motion takes one finger and takes two seconds once you know where the release point is. José Lux artisans adjust the snap tension on every hoop before it ships. The correct tension closes with a clear click and requires deliberate finger pressure to release. Too loose and the earring opens in wear. Too tight and the mechanism becomes difficult to operate daily. The snap on this earring is set to hold securely and release cleanly.
The hinge and snap mechanism are both fabricated from the same 925 sterling silver as the hoop body. The hinge pin and socket are solid. The mechanism can be opened and closed thousands of times without the snap losing its engagement — provided the hoop isn’t forced open at an angle or torqued beyond the hinge’s range of motion. Open and close it in the plane of the hoop. That’s how the mechanism is designed to move.
Cleaning and Daily Maintenance
The snap closure allows the hoop to be fully opened for cleaning — this is a significant practical advantage over earring types where the stone face and the back are permanently joined. Open the hoop, lay it face-up on a clean cloth, and work a soft brush with warm water and mild soap across the stone rows, between the prong tips, and along the inner surface of the band. The gap between the two stone rows and the prong bases between adjacent stones in each row are the spots that accumulate residue fastest. Give those areas extra attention.
Rinse the hoop under warm running water with the snap open so water runs through the inner curve. Dry completely before closing the snap. Closing the snap on a wet hoop traps moisture inside the hinge mechanism over time. One minute of drying time after cleaning prevents that.
For daily care: remove the hoops before showering, swimming, or exercising. Wipe them with a soft dry cloth after wearing. Store them in the box or on an open tray — not pressed against other jewelry where the stone faces can abrade against metal. The double-row stone face is dense enough that adjacent prong tips can catch on other jewelry if stored loosely together.
The Metal and Plating
The complete hoop — band body, hinge assembly, snap post, socket, and inner curve — is 925 sterling silver. 92.5% pure silver, 7.5% copper. The copper content gives the silver enough rigidity to maintain the hoop’s circular shape under daily wear and to hold the hinge and snap mechanism without flexing at the connection points.

Every earring gets a rhodium plated white gold finish applied by hand at our Vietnam workshop. Not machine-dipped. Hand application on a hoop earring covers surfaces that a machine misses: the inner curve of the band, the hinge pin and its surrounding area, the socket interior on the snap closure. The inner surface of a huggie hoop is in contact with the skin behind the lobe throughout the day. It needs even plating as much as the outer stone face does. Hand application gives us control over that.
Rhodium is harder than gold. The finish holds its bright white appearance through daily wear. Conservative baseline: three years of regular daily wear before any noticeable change. Many José Lux customers re-plate after five years. The longest we’ve recorded before a first re-plate: eight years. Skin chemistry, how often you wear them, and whether you take them off around chemicals all affect that timeline. Re-plating is always free at José Lux. No time limit. No conditions. The snap mechanism is opened for the re-plating process to ensure the hinge area receives full coverage.
Warranty and Repairs
Every CZ stone on a José Lux hoop earring is individually set and checked before it ships. Stone loss from normal daily wear is extremely rare when prong tension is correct. The snap closure is tested for click engagement and release action on every pair before shipment.
If something comes loose or fails under everyday use — no drops, no impacts, just daily wear — José Lux handles it:
- Swiss CZ stone re-setting: Always free. Both rows covered. José Lux sources CZ in volume and absorbs the cost entirely. No conditions, no time limit.
- Rhodium re-plating: Always free at the José Lux workshop. No time limit. No conditions.
- Snap mechanism adjustment: If the snap loses its positive engagement under normal use, we re-tension or replace the mechanism at no charge.
- Prong re-tipping: Free under normal wear conditions.
What’s not covered: stones lost due to hard impact, prong deformation from a physical blow, or snap mechanism damage from forcing the hoop open in the wrong direction. José Lux inspects each case individually. If a repair falls outside the warranty, we quote the cost clearly before any work is done.

Our Workshop
Our workshop is in Vietnam. A huggie hoop earring has more fabrication steps than any stud we make. The hoop body is formed to a consistent diameter. The hinge assembly is fitted and pinned. The snap post and socket are fabricated and aligned so the post engages cleanly when the hoop is closed. The two stone rows are set across the outer face with prong tension checked stone by stone. The full hoop — including the hinge area and inner curve — is plated by hand with the snap open. The snap is closed and tested for click engagement and release resistance before the pair is packaged.
Those are more steps than a stud, and every step has to be right for the earring to work correctly in daily wear. Our artisans have been doing this work long enough that none of those steps is unfamiliar. The snap mechanisms on José Lux huggie hoops click the same way on day one and on day three hundred. The stone rows sit level across the full face width. The inner curve sits flush against the lobe. That’s what we build. That’s what ships.

Your Earrings Arrive Protected — Two-Layer Box Packaging, USPS Insured

Your earrings ship in two layers of packaging. The inner jewelry box holds each earring securely in place. The outer box protects everything during transit. On top of that, the earrings themselves are wrapped in a shock-absorbing layer before they go into the box — so there's no movement, no impact damage, nothing shifts in transit.
Shipping is via USPS with 100% jewelry insurance on every order. If something goes wrong in transit — lost, delayed, damaged — we cover it. Even if an address was entered incorrectly at checkout, José Lux refunds you in full. You either receive your earrings in perfect condition, or you get your money back. That's the José Lux standard.
FAQ
What is a huggie hoop and how is it different from a standard hoop earring?
A standard hoop earring has a diameter large enough that the hoop hangs below the lobe — it swings and moves when you move. A huggie hoop has a small diameter sized to fit snug against the lobe. The hoop body wraps around the lobe rather than hanging from it. The result is an earring that stays level, doesn’t swing, and sits flush against the ear in all directions. The lifestyle shots show this clearly: the stone face sits directly at the lobe, the hoop body is barely visible behind the ear, and there’s no movement or tilt. For women who want the look of a hoop without the swing of a large hoop, a huggie is the correct earring.
How do I put a huggie hoop on and take it off?
The closure is a hinged snap. The hoop opens at one point: the snap side, opposite the hinge. Press the snap release point — it’s the small flat area adjacent to the hinge, visible in the product shots — and the snap post will release from its socket. The hoop opens. Pass the snap post through the piercing. Hold the hoop body in position and bring the two halves together until the snap post clicks into its socket. You’ll feel the click. The earring is on. To remove: press the release point again. The motion is the same as putting it on, in reverse. Once you’ve done it two or three times, it takes under five seconds.
Will the snap closure stay secure during daily activity?
Yes — when the mechanism is correctly tensioned. The snap post engages into a socket rather than relying on friction alone. That socket engagement is what keeps the hoop closed. José Lux artisans test click engagement and release resistance on every hoop before it ships. The snap should close with a clear, positive click and require deliberate finger pressure to release. It should not open during normal movement, sleep, or exercise. If the snap loses its engagement under normal daily use — no force, no bending, just daily wear — José Lux repairs or replaces the mechanism at no charge.
Why two rows of stones instead of one?
The band is wide enough that a single row of stones would leave visible metal above and below the stone line. A single row in a wide band reads as a stone stripe with plain metal border — the band width works against it. Two rows of stones fill the full face width. The staggered offset between the rows — stones in the front row sitting between stones in the back row — reduces the visible metal between rows further. The result is a stone face that reads as dense and fully covered rather than sparse. The band width is the design decision that makes two rows necessary and correct.
Are the stones individually prong-set or pave?
Individually prong-set. Each stone has its own prong tips holding it above the metal surface. In pave, micro stones share prong tips and sit flush with the metal, creating a smooth stone surface with minimal visible metal between stones. In this earring, the stones are large enough relative to the band that individual prong setting is correct. Individual prong-set stones stand up from the surface and catch more light from side angles than flush-set pave stones do. The difference is visible in the product shots: each stone is clearly visible as an individual round stone, not a flat stone surface. That dimensionality is the result of individual prong setting.
How do I clean huggie hoops?
Open the snap closure fully. This is the key step — a closed hoop traps water and soap in the inner curve and the hinge area. With the hoop open, use a soft-bristle brush with warm water and mild soap on the outer stone face. Work between the prong tips in both rows and in the gap between the two stone rows — residue accumulates there first. Brush the inner curve and the snap mechanism area. Rinse under warm running water with the hoop still open. Dry completely before closing the snap. Particular attention to the hinge point: moisture trapped in the hinge over time affects the mechanism. Open — clean — rinse — dry — close. That sequence keeps both the stones and the mechanism in good condition.
Can I sleep and exercise with these on?
Exercise, yes — the snap closure holds regardless of movement and the huggie sits flush enough that it doesn’t catch on clothing or hair the way a larger hoop would. Sleep, we’d recommend against it for two reasons. First, the prong tips on the stone face can catch on pillowcase fabric and put lateral stress on the stones over time. Second, sleeping on the same side every night eventually affects how the hoop sits against the lobe. It’s a simple habit to take them off before bed and put them on in the morning. That habit keeps the stone face and the closure mechanism in better condition over time.
How long does the plating last?
The rhodium plated white gold finish is hand-applied at our Vietnam workshop — not machine-dipped. Conservative baseline: three years of regular daily wear. Many José Lux customers re-plate after five years. The longest we’ve recorded before a first re-plate: eight years of daily wear. Skin chemistry, wear frequency, and whether you take them off around chemicals all affect the timeline. On huggie hoops, the inner curve in contact with the lobe skin sees more friction than the outer stone face — that area may show wear first. Re-plating covers the full hoop including inner curve. Always free, no time limit.
What does the warranty cover?
Swiss CZ stone re-setting is always free, no conditions, no time limit — both rows covered. Rhodium re-plating is always free, no time limit. Snap mechanism re-tensioning or replacement is free under normal use conditions. Prong re-tipping is free under normal wear. What’s not covered: prong deformation from a direct hard impact, stones lost from a blow, or snap mechanism damage from forcing the hoop open in the wrong direction. José Lux inspects each case individually. If a repair falls outside the warranty, we quote the cost before any work is done.
Where are these earrings made?
Handmade at the José Lux workshop in Vietnam. Building a huggie hoop involves more components than a stud earring: the hoop body itself, the hinge assembly, the snap post and socket, and the individual stone settings across two parallel rows. Every component is fabricated in 925 sterling silver. The hinge pin is set and the snap tension is adjusted by hand. Each row of stones is individually prong-set and checked before the snap is assembled. The completed hoop is plated by hand with the snap open so the hinge area receives full coverage. Then the snap is tested for click engagement before the pair ships. Our artisans have been building hoop mechanisms and setting CZ stones for years. The mechanism and the stone work both show it.
