How It's Made — Alloy to Hallmark

Every José Lux gold bracelet goes through four stages before it ships: alloying, casting, hand finishing, and quality control. We alloy 24K gold down to 14K by hand, melting pure gold with alloy metals in the exact ratio for 58.3% pure gold and the Yellow Gold color. The links and barrels are cast from a 3D CAD design using lost-wax casting, then filed, joined, and soldered. We fit the clasp by hand and polish the links to a mirror finish. Before the bracelet leaves Hồ Chí Minh City, we test the karat with an XRF machine, check the nickel content, and stamp the legal karat hallmark.

A rolo chain gives you nothing to hide behind. Round links of equal size show every uneven joint, so each ring has to be closed true before it's joined to the next. If one link sits off, the whole bracelet hangs crooked on your wrist.

14K Gold — What 58.3% Pure Gold Means

14K gold is 58.3% pure gold, and the rest is alloy metal mixed in for strength. More pure gold gives 14K a richer, warmer Yellow Gold. The trade-off is hardness: 10K gold — 41.7% pure gold — carries more alloy metal, so it resists daily scratches a little better. 14K gold is softer and picks up fine surface marks sooner, so a soft cloth and an occasional polish keep the finish clean. Neither karat is the better metal. They're two different trade-offs, and this bracelet is 14K gold.

Yellow Gold gets its color from the alloy formula, the ratio of alloy metals mixed into the gold. That color runs through the whole piece, so nothing on the surface can wear away.

We make the spring ring clasp by hand at the same bench as the links, and it closes firmly to hold the bracelet in place. It also opens easily. You can take the bracelet off when you're done wearing it and put it back on whenever you need it.
