José Lux has been hand-setting stones in men's silver pendants for over a decade. The Gothic Cross is a different design language from a standard cross pendant — the arm shape is not straight. Each arm flares outward toward the tip, narrows at a concave curve midway, and terminates in a pointed gothic tip. That arm geometry changes how the pave stone surface reads: the flared tips carry more stones than the mid-arm, which creates visual weight at the extremities and a cross that looks larger than its 4cm × 3cm footprint.

The pendant is fully paved in Swiss CZ across the inner face of every arm — with a raised polished silver star motif at the center intersection, left stone-free, that reads as a graphic element against the iced arm surface. The arm edges are finished in high-polish rhodium that borders the pave field and defines the gothic arm contour cleanly. The pendant ships with a box chain — 55cm (21.6 in), 925 sterling silver, rhodium plated to match.
Every stone in this pendant is hand-set by the artisans at the José Lux Vietnam workshop. Pave setting across gothic arm geometry — where the arm width changes from tip to mid-arm to intersection — requires individual stone sizing and placement decisions at every section. It can't be templated. It has to be done stone by stone.
The Gothic Cross Pendant — Design and Stone Setting
The cross arms on this pendant are not rectangular. Each arm has a specific gothic profile: it flares wider at the tip, curves inward concavely on both sides at the mid-arm, and meets the center intersection at a narrower width. The arm tips extend into pointed gothic points. This arm shape is what separates a gothic cross from a plain cross — the silhouette reads as architectural, not geometric.

The inner face of each arm is paved in Swiss CZ from the arm tip to the center intersection. The stone field follows the arm contour — wider at the flared tips, narrowing at the concave mid-arm, widening slightly again at the intersection approach. The pave density is consistent across the full arm length. No thinning at the tip points, no gaps at the curve transitions.
The center intersection carries a raised five-point star motif in polished 925 sterling silver — no stones on the star face. The star projects slightly above the arm surface, creating a three-dimensional element at the cross center. The polished silver star against the surrounding pave field is the defining visual detail of this pendant: a clean metal graphic in the middle of a stone-covered surface.

The arm edges — the outer profile of each gothic arm including the tip points and the concave side curves — are finished in high-polish rhodium without stone coverage. The polished edge acts as a border that defines the gothic arm contour clearly and creates contrast between the pave interior and the polished frame. This two-surface approach — pave inside, polish on the border — is what gives the cross its architectural quality.
The bail above the cross is also stone-set in round pave Swiss CZ, matching the arm stone density. When the pendant hangs on the chain, the bail stone coverage transitions into the top arm pave without a gap.

Swiss CZ is Cubic Zirconia manufactured to a consistent optical standard. José Lux sources round CZ from certified import lots with consistent cut and color. In pave work across a variable-width surface like a gothic arm, stone size consistency matters — inconsistent stones create uneven rows at the point where the arm width changes. Tight-spec stones seat correctly at every width section.
Every stone is hand-set individually. The pave field across a gothic arm with changing width can't be machine-pressed — the stone placement has to adjust to the arm geometry at each point. José Lux artisans work section by section, tip to intersection, adjusting stone positioning to the arm contour as they go.
The Star Center — Polished Silver Motif
The five-point star at the cross center is raised in solid 925 sterling silver and left unset. No stones on the star face. The star projects slightly above the surrounding pave arm surfaces, catching light independently of the CZ field around it. In direct light, the polished star face mirrors — a different reflection character from the scattered sparkle of the pave stones surrounding it.

The decision to leave the star unset is the same logic as the polished arm edges: contrast. A fully iced pendant surface with no break becomes a uniform stone field that reads as texture rather than design. The polished star center and the polished arm borders give the eye specific points to land on. The cross reads as a designed object, not just a covered surface.
The Box Chain
The chain included with this pendant is a box chain — square links in a continuous line, flat drape profile, no twist under pendant weight. At 55cm (21.6 in), the chain places the pendant at mid-chest on most men — the correct wear position for a gothic cross at this scale. Chain and pendant are matched in finish: both rhodium plated white gold, both hand-applied at the José Lux workshop.
The Metal and Plating
The pendant and chain are 925 sterling silver — 92.5% pure silver, 7.5% copper for structural strength. The gothic arm geometry with its concave curves and pointed tips requires a cast base that holds the fine detail through daily wear. The copper content in 925 keeps the arm profile stable.

Every piece gets a rhodium plated white gold finish applied by hand at our Vietnam workshop. Not machine-dipped. Hand application is essential for a pendant with this surface variety — the pave arm face, the polished arm edge borders, the raised star center, the bail, and the box chain links all require different plating coverage. Machine dipping can't differentiate between these surface zones. Hand plating can.
Rhodium is harder than gold and sits as a barrier between the silver and the air. The finish keeps the pendant and chain bright white and mirror-clean through daily wear. Conservative baseline: three years of regular daily wear before any fading is noticeable. Many José Lux customers re-plate after five years. The longest we've recorded: eight years before the first re-plate.
Re-plating is always free at the José Lux workshop. No time limit. No conditions.
The Clasp — Hand-Finished Lobster Claw
The lobster claw clasp on this chain is hand-crafted and hand-finished at the José Lux workshop in Vietnam. The spring mechanism engages cleanly and holds under daily wear — including the weight of a pendant this size. It doesn't rattle. It doesn't open unexpectedly. Single-hand operation: press the lever, hook the ring, release. Easy to remove for cleaning. Easy to unhook from the bail loop to swap the pendant to a different chain. Every clasp is tested before the necklace ships.
Care
The rhodium plated white gold finish protects the silver surface on both the pendant and chain. Avoid prolonged exposure to chlorine (pools, hot tubs), bleach, strong household cleaners, and perfume applied directly to the piece. These accelerate finish wear.
For the pendant: pave stone settings collect residue between stones over time, especially in the concave arm sections where skin contact is highest. A soft brush with warm water and a drop of mild dish soap, worked across the pave arm surfaces and along the arm edge borders, rinse thoroughly, air dry fully. Pay attention to the gap between the raised star center and the surrounding pave — residue collects at that edge. Monthly cleaning keeps the pave bright and the polished star clear.
The polishing cloth José Lux includes with every order handles light surface residue on the chain and the polished arm edges between deeper cleans.
Warranty
José Lux's goal is simple: your pendant and chain should last as long as you want to wear them.
Swiss CZ re-setting: always free. If a pave stone comes loose under normal daily wear, José Lux re-sets it at no charge. José Lux imports Swiss CZ at volume — replacement stone cost is absorbed by the workshop.
Rhodium re-plating: always free at the José Lux workshop. No time limit. When the finish fades after years of daily wear, we re-plate at no charge.
Clasp: if the lobster claw fails under normal daily wear — no impacts, no bending from force — José Lux repairs or replaces it.
What's not covered: visible physical damage from hard impact — tip point deformation from a drop or strike, raised star damage from a hard knock, or stone loss from visible impact damage. José Lux inspects each case individually and communicates honestly. If a repair falls outside the warranty, we quote the cost clearly before any work is done.

Our Workshop
Our workshop is in Vietnam. The artisans who hand-set this pendant and apply the rhodium plating have been doing this work for years. Every stone is placed individually. Every clasp is tested before the necklace ships.

A gothic cross with pave arms and a polished star center looks precise and intentional. Getting there requires bench work across multiple surface types: pave setting that adjusts to a changing arm width section by section, polished edge borders that follow the gothic arm contour cleanly without bleeding into the pave field, a raised star center that sits flush and even against the surrounding arm surface, and rhodium plating that treats the pave face, the polished edges, and the raised star as three separate surface zones. José Lux has been doing this long enough to know where cheaper versions of this pendant fail — pave coverage that thins at the tip points, polished edge borders that are uneven where the concave arm curve changes direction, star centers that sit at inconsistent heights above the arm surface. Ours don't have those problems. Because every detail is finished by hand, correctly, before the pendant leaves the workshop.
Your Necklace Arrives Protected — Two-Layer Box Packaging, USPS Insured

Your necklace ships in two layers of packaging. The inner box holds the chain and pendant securely in place. The outer box protects everything during transit. On top of that, the necklace itself is wrapped in a shock-absorbing layer before it goes into the box — so there's no movement, no impact damage, nothing shifts in transit.
Shipping is via USPS with 100% jewelry insurance on every order. If something goes wrong in transit — lost, delayed, damaged — we cover it. Even if an address was entered incorrectly at checkout, José Lux refunds you in full. You either receive your necklace in perfect condition, or you get your money back. That's the José Lux standard.
Free USPS to the United States and Europe. Tracking sent the day your order ships. Estimated delivery 7–14 business days. European orders can encounter customs delays — José Lux states that upfront rather than promise a window we can't control.
A silver polishing cloth and a José Lux warranty card from the workshop are included with every order.
FAQ
What makes this a gothic cross pendant?
The arm shape. A standard cross has straight rectangular arms. This cross has gothic arms: each arm flares wider at the tip, curves inward concavely on both sides at the mid-arm, and terminates in a pointed gothic tip. That arm profile is what defines the gothic cross silhouette — the flared tips and concave curves read as architectural rather than geometric. At 4cm × 3cm, the pendant is large enough for those arm contours to read clearly at a distance.
Why is the center star not stone-set?
Contrast. A raised polished silver star at the center intersection, left stone-free, creates a defined graphic point against the surrounding pave arm surface. Fully icing the star would eliminate it as a distinct element — it would disappear into the overall stone coverage. The polished star and the polished arm edge borders give the cross specific visual structure. The cross reads as a designed object with intentional zones, not just a uniform covered surface.
How does the gothic arm geometry affect the stone setting?
A gothic arm with changing width — flared at the tip, concave at the mid-arm, meeting the intersection at a different width again — can't be paved with a uniform stone template. The row count changes as the arm width changes. The stone placement at the concave transition points has to be adjusted individually. José Lux artisans set each arm section by section, adjusting to the arm geometry as they go. That's the only way to get consistent pave density across a variable-width gothic arm surface.
Why 55cm and is that right for me?
55cm is approximately 21.6 inches — mid-chest pendant position on most men. Long enough to sit below any collar. Short enough to stay visible above a crew neck. At 4cm × 3cm, this pendant needs mid-chest positioning to read correctly — too high on the neck and the gothic arm proportions compress visually. Every customer at José Lux has been satisfied with this length. If you want to confirm before ordering, message us directly.
Why a lobster claw clasp?
For a pendant necklace at this weight and size, a lobster claw clasp is the most reliable close. Single-hand operation — press the lever, hook, release. Easy to remove for cleaning. Easy to unhook from the bail to swap the pendant. José Lux hand-finishes every lobster claw clasp at the Vietnam workshop and tests it before the necklace ships.
How does the rhodium plating work and how long does it last?
Hand-applied at our Vietnam workshop — not machine-dipped. The pendant has three distinct surface zones: pave arm face, polished arm edge border, and raised polished star center. Hand plating adjusts coverage to each zone. Rhodium is harder than gold and keeps the piece bright white through daily wear. Conservative baseline: three years. Many customers re-plate after five years. The longest we've recorded: eight years before the first re-plate. Re-plating is always free at the José Lux workshop — no time limit.
What happens if a stone comes loose?
Swiss CZ re-setting is always free at José Lux. We import at volume — the cost is absorbed by the workshop. If a pave stone comes loose from the arm surface without impact damage, contact the workshop and we handle it. What's not covered: stone loss from visible tip deformation or hard impact damage. José Lux inspects each case individually and communicates clearly.
How does shipping work?
Free USPS to the United States and Europe. Tracking sent the day your order ships. Estimated 7–14 business days. European orders can see customs delays — José Lux states that honestly rather than promise a window we can't control. Every shipment is 100% insured. If something goes wrong in transit, including an incorrect delivery address, a full refund is issued.
Where is this pendant made?
Handmade at the José Lux workshop in Vietnam. The artisans who hand-set the pave stones across the gothic arm geometry, finish the polished arm edges and star center, and apply the rhodium plating have been doing this work for years. Pave setting across a variable-width curved arm is a different skill from straight-arm pave work. The workshop has been doing both for over a decade.
