José Lux has been hand-finishing men's silver pendants for over a decade. The Jesus Face cross is a two-tone piece: a sculpted cross in 925 sterling silver with a three-dimensional Jesus face at the center, wearing a gold plated Crown of Thorns that wraps over the head and extends across the cross arm intersection. White silver for the cross and face. Gold for the crown. Two materials, one pendant — the gold crown reads immediately against the silver cross face and gives this piece its visual distinction from a standard silver crucifix.

No stones. The pendant reads entirely through sculpt quality and the contrast between the two finish materials. At 3.8cm tall and 2.8cm wide, it sits at mid-chest on a 55cm (21.6 in) box chain — visible from across a room at that scale, clear in its iconography, and wears well under a crew neck or an open collar.

The cross arms flare wider toward the tips — a traditional design that increases the visible surface area of each arm and gives the cross a more architectural silhouette than straight-arm designs. The cross face carries a brushed texture that contrasts with the high-polish gold crown and the sculpted silver face at the center.

The Pendant Design — Sculpt and Two-Tone Finish

The cross is built on a solid 925 sterling silver frame with arms that flare outward toward each tip. The arm face carries a fine brushed texture — not smooth, not deeply textured, but a consistent satin surface that reduces specular reflection on the cross face and lets the gold crown catch direct light independently.

The Jesus face is sculpted in three dimensions at the center of the cross, raised above the cross face. The face carries defined eye sockets, brow ridge, nose, and downcast expression — the traditional representation of Christ in suffering rather than the resurrected Christ. Long hair falls in relief across the lower arm of the cross below the face. The sculpt depth creates clear light and shadow contrast across the face geometry, making the figure readable at normal viewing distance.

The INRI inscription appears in a raised tablet directly above the face, at the top arm of the cross. The lettering is in relief within a defined frame. INRI — Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum — is the Latin inscription historically placed above the cross at the Crucifixion.

The Crown of Thorns is the defining element of this pendant. It is sculpted separately in 925 sterling silver, gold plated, and fitted over the Jesus face at the brow line — wrapping around the head and extending across the cross arm intersection on both sides. The crown is three-dimensional: individual thorns project outward from a woven branch base. The gold plating on the crown is high-polish, which creates an immediate contrast against the brushed silver cross face and the detailed silver face sculpt below it.

The bail above the cross top arm is a smooth oval loop in rhodium plated silver, sized for the box chain and allowing the pendant to hang flat and centered on the neck.

The Two-Tone Finish — White Silver and Gold

The cross frame, the Jesus face sculpt, and the INRI tablet are finished in rhodium plated white silver — bright white, mirror-clean on the polished face edges, satin-smooth on the brushed arm surfaces. The Crown of Thorns is finished separately in gold plate over 925 sterling silver — high-polish gold that catches warm light independently of the white silver surrounding it.

The gold crown is applied to the crown element before it is fitted to the pendant — not plated after assembly. Separate application keeps the gold finish on the crown contained, with a clean edge where the crown base meets the silver cross face below it. Gold overspray on the silver face below the crown is one of the most common quality failures on two-tone pieces made with post-assembly plating. José Lux applies each finish to its element first, then assembles.

Gold plating durability follows the same general timeline as rhodium: three to five years of regular daily wear before any fading is noticeable, depending on skin chemistry, wear frequency, and chemical exposure. If the gold crown finish fades, José Lux re-plates it at no charge — same policy as the rhodium re-plate.

The Box Chain

The chain included with this pendant is a box chain — square links in a continuous line, flat drape profile, no twist under pendant weight. At 55cm (21.6 in), the chain places the pendant at mid-chest on most men. The chain is rhodium plated white silver to match the cross frame finish. Chain and pendant are matched in finish: both hand-applied at the José Lux workshop.

The Metal and Plating

The pendant and chain are 925 sterling silver — 92.5% pure silver, 7.5% copper for structural strength. The flared-arm cross frame, the Jesus face sculpt, the Crown of Thorns element, and the box chain are all 925. The two finish materials — rhodium white on the cross and chain, gold on the crown — are applied over the same 925 silver base.

The cross, face, and chain receive rhodium plated white gold finish applied by hand at our Vietnam workshop. Not machine-dipped. The Crown of Thorns receives gold plate applied separately before being fitted to the cross. Hand application on both elements ensures coverage is even and the finish boundary between the two materials is clean.

Rhodium is harder than gold. Both finishes sit as barriers between the silver base and the air. Conservative baseline for either finish: three years of regular daily wear before any fading is noticeable. Re-plating — both rhodium white and gold — is always free at the José Lux workshop. No time limit. No conditions.

The Clasp — Hand-Finished Lobster Claw

The lobster claw clasp on this chain is hand-crafted and hand-finished at the José Lux workshop in Vietnam. The spring mechanism engages cleanly and holds under daily wear — including the weight of a solid silver cross pendant at this scale. It doesn't rattle. It doesn't open unexpectedly. Single-hand operation: press the lever, hook the ring, release. Easy to remove for cleaning. Easy to unhook from the bail loop to swap the pendant. Every clasp is tested before the necklace ships.

Care

The pendant has two finish zones that require the same basic care: avoid prolonged chlorine, bleach, strong household cleaners, and perfume applied directly to either the cross face or the gold crown. These accelerate finish wear on both rhodium and gold.

For the pendant: the brushed cross arm surface and the sculpted face and crown collect residue over time, particularly in the Crown of Thorns thorn gaps and the face relief details. A soft brush with warm water and a drop of mild dish soap, worked carefully across the cross face, through the crown thorn structure, and around the face and INRI tablet. Rinse thoroughly. Air dry fully. Monthly cleaning keeps the gold crown bright and the silver face detail clear.

The polishing cloth José Lux includes with every order handles light surface residue on the chain and the flat cross arm surfaces between deeper cleans.

Warranty

José Lux's goal is simple: your pendant and chain should last as long as you want to wear them.

Rhodium re-plating (cross + chain): always free at the José Lux workshop. No time limit.

Gold re-plating (Crown of Thorns): always free at the José Lux workshop. No time limit. Same policy as rhodium.

Clasp: if the lobster claw fails under normal daily wear — no impacts, no bending from force — José Lux repairs or replaces it.

What's not covered: visible physical damage from hard impact — cross arm deformation from a drop, crown element damage from a strike. José Lux inspects each case individually and communicates honestly. If a repair falls outside the warranty, we quote the cost clearly before any work is done.

Our Workshop

Our workshop is in Vietnam. The artisans who finish this pendant and apply the two-tone plating have been doing this work for years. Every clasp is adjusted at the bench. Every pendant is inspected before it ships.

A Jesus face cross with a gold Crown of Thorns looks precise when it's done correctly. Getting there requires two separate finishing processes — the cross and face in rhodium white, the crown in gold — and a clean assembly where the crown sits flush against the face at the brow line without a visible gap or a plating bleed between the two materials. The Jesus face sculpt has to carry enough depth to read clearly through the silver surface finish. The INRI tablet has to sit level and legible above the face. The Crown of Thorns thorn detail has to be consistent around the full circumference of the crown, including the sections that extend across the cross arm intersection on both sides. José Lux has been doing this long enough to know exactly where this pendant fails when the work is rushed — crown elements that sit off-center on the face, gold bleed onto the silver face below the crown base, thorn detail that's sharp on the front and rough on the sides. Ours don't have those problems. Because every step is done in the right sequence, by artisans who have done it before.

Your Necklace Arrives Protected — Two-Layer Box Packaging, USPS Insured

Your necklace ships in two layers of packaging. The inner box holds the chain and pendant securely in place. The outer box protects everything during transit. On top of that, the necklace itself is wrapped in a shock-absorbing layer before it goes into the box — so there's no movement, no impact damage, nothing shifts in transit.

Shipping is via USPS with 100% jewelry insurance on every order. If something goes wrong in transit — lost, delayed, damaged — we cover it. Even if an address was entered incorrectly at checkout, José Lux refunds you in full. You either receive your necklace in perfect condition, or you get your money back. That's the José Lux standard.

Free USPS to the United States and Europe. Tracking sent the day your order ships. Estimated delivery 7–14 business days. European orders can encounter customs delays — José Lux states that upfront rather than promise a window we can't control.

A silver polishing cloth and a José Lux warranty card from the workshop are included with every order.

FAQ

What makes this a two-tone pendant?

The cross frame and the sculpted Jesus face are finished in rhodium plated white silver — bright white and satin-smooth on the brushed arm surfaces. The Crown of Thorns is a separate element, gold plated over 925 sterling silver, fitted over the face at the brow line. Two materials, applied separately, assembled into one pendant. The gold crown reads immediately against the white silver cross face in any light — warm gold against cool white. That contrast is the defining visual of this pendant.

What is the Crown of Thorns and why is it gold?

The Crown of Thorns is the woven thorn crown placed on Jesus's head at the Crucifixion, described in the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and John. In Christian iconography it is one of the most recognized symbols of the Passion — alongside the cross itself and the INRI inscription. In this pendant, the crown is sculpted with individual thorns projecting from a woven base and finished in gold to distinguish it materially from the silver cross and face below it. The gold finish is both an iconographic choice — the crown as a symbol of sacred authority — and a visual one: the gold catches warm light differently from the surrounding white silver, making the crown immediately legible as a distinct element.

What does INRI mean?

INRI is the Latin abbreviation for Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum — Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. It is the inscription Pontius Pilate ordered placed above the cross at the Crucifixion, as recorded in the Gospel of John. On this pendant it appears as raised lettering in a defined frame at the top arm of the cross, directly above the sculpted Jesus face.

Is there any stone setting on this pendant?

No. This is a plain silver and gold pendant — no stones, no CZ, no pave. The piece carries all of its visual weight through the two-tone finish contrast, the sculpted Jesus face, the Crown of Thorns detail, and the INRI inscription. Men who buy this pendant are looking for a traditional religious cross in two-tone silver and gold, not a stone-set piece.

How is the gold plating applied and will it last?

The Crown of Thorns element is gold plated as a standalone piece before being fitted to the cross — not plated as part of the assembled pendant. Separate application keeps the gold finish contained to the crown with a clean edge where the crown base meets the silver cross face. Conservative baseline for the gold finish: three years of regular daily wear before any fading. Gold re-plating is always free at the José Lux workshop — same policy as the rhodium re-plate, no time limit.

Why 55cm and is that right for me?

55cm is approximately 21.6 inches — mid-chest pendant position on most men. At 3.8cm tall, this pendant needs mid-chest positioning to read correctly at scale. Too high on the neck and the cross proportions compress against the collarbone. Every customer at José Lux has been satisfied with this length for a cross pendant at this size. If you want to confirm before ordering, message us directly.

Why a lobster claw clasp?

For a solid silver cross pendant at this weight, a lobster claw clasp is the most reliable close. Single-hand operation — press the lever, hook, release. Easy to remove for cleaning. Easy to unhook from the bail to swap the pendant. José Lux hand-finishes every lobster claw clasp at the Vietnam workshop and tests it before the necklace ships.

How does shipping work?

Free USPS to the United States and Europe. Tracking sent the day your order ships. Estimated 7–14 business days. European orders can see customs delays — José Lux states that honestly rather than promise a window we can't control. Every shipment is 100% insured. If something goes wrong in transit, including an incorrect delivery address, a full refund is issued.

Where is this pendant made?

Handmade at the José Lux workshop in Vietnam. The artisans who finish the cross frame, sculpt and fit the Crown of Thorns, and apply both finish materials have been doing this work for years. A two-tone pendant involves two separate finishing paths that have to meet cleanly at the crown-to-face boundary. That assembly sequence is done correctly at the workshop, on every piece, before it ships.
