José Lux makes most of its earrings with Moissanite. This one is Swiss CZ — but it's not a small stone. The Swiss CZ in this earring is large enough to read with real presence on the ear. One stone per earring. No halo, no cluster, no surrounding stones. Just the stone in a four-claw mount, elevated off the base, sitting center on the lobe.

A large solitaire CZ stud is a direct earring. The stone is the whole point. It needs to be well-cut, well-sourced, and correctly sized to fill the mount without shifting. The mount needs to hold it elevated — not sunk into the disc — so light enters from the sides as well as from above. The claw tips need to sit securely at the girdle without overpowering the stone face. We've made enough of these at our Vietnam workshop to know exactly what makes the difference between a large CZ stud that looks convincing and one that doesn't.

The post and screw-back are 925 sterling silver. The screw-back threads fully onto the post, locks, and detaches completely for cleaning. One pair — two earrings. The stone size and mount height are matched across both earrings before they ship.

The Swiss CZ Stone — Large Round Brilliant

The stone is Swiss CZ — cubic zirconia, lab-created, sourced from Switzerland. Round brilliant cut. Not Moissanite. Not diamond. José Lux states this plainly because we want you to know exactly what you're buying.

Swiss CZ has clean white brilliance. It returns light sharply and consistently across the full table. There's no rainbow fire — that's Moissanite territory — but there's strong, clear white flash. On a large stone like this one, that flash reads across a room. The round brilliant cut is optimized for this: 58 facets arranged to maximize light return from every angle. In direct light, the stone reads bright. In ambient light, it holds its sparkle.

The stone is sized to fill the four-claw mount properly. A stone that's undersized for the mount rattles and sits off-center. A stone that's oversized stresses the claws. The Swiss CZ in this earring is matched to the mount diameter. It sits cleanly in position, with the claws holding it at the girdle and the table elevated above the disc base.

Large CZ needs to be sourced at a quality grade that holds up at this size. At small dimensions, minor inconsistencies in cut or clarity are hard to see. At large dimensions, they're visible. José Lux sources Swiss CZ at a clarity and cut grade that looks clean at the size used in this earring. No visible inclusions. No cloudy areas. A stone that earns its presence on the ear.

The Four-Claw Solitaire Mount

The mount is a four-claw basket setting in 925 sterling silver. Four claws hold the stone at the girdle — the equatorial edge where the crown meets the pavilion. The basket structure holds the stone elevated above the disc base, with open sides that allow light to enter from all directions.

The open-side basket design is deliberate. Light enters the pavilion from the sides, travels through the stone, and exits through the crown table. A closed, bezel-set stone would block that side light. The basket setting maximizes the stone's optical performance. That matters on a large CZ — the bigger the stone, the more important it is to let light move through it freely.

The four claws are hand-finished and checked for even tension at our Vietnam workshop before every earring ships. The claw tips sit just above the girdle — visible, but not dominant. They hold the stone without covering the crown face. The rhodium plated finish on the claws and the disc base reads bright white and clean against the stone.

The Post and Screw-Back — Sterling Silver

The post, screw-back nut, and backplate disc are all 925 sterling silver. Solid silver throughout. No brass. No base metal at any point of ear contact.

The screw-back threads onto the post and locks mechanically. Wind the nut clockwise down the threaded shaft until it seats against the back of the lobe. That mechanical lock holds throughout daily movement, exercise, and sleep. A butterfly push-back relies on spring friction — friction that weakens with every daily removal. A screw-back doesn't degrade that way. It locks until you actively unscrew it.

The full screw-back assembly detaches completely from the post. With the back off, the stone mount and the underside of the disc base are accessible for cleaning. On a large stone with open basket sides, residue accumulates under the stone over time. Being able to fully clean the stone from below keeps it looking its best. Warm water, mild soap, a soft brush under and around the stone, rinse thoroughly. Thread re-engages the same way every time.

Solid silver post. No corroding brass against the piercing. That's the standard on every José Lux stud earring.

The Metal and Plating

The complete earring — the four-claw mount, the basket structure, the disc base, the post, and the screw-back — is 925 sterling silver. 92.5% pure silver, 7.5% copper for strength. The basket structure on a large-stone mount carries more load than a small solitaire. The claws have to hold a heavier stone without flexing at the base. The disc has to be thick enough to support the basket without bending. José Lux uses properly gauged silver for this mount.

Every earring gets a rhodium plated white gold finish applied by hand at our workshop in Vietnam. Not machine-dipped. Our artisans have been hand-plating silver for years. Hand application gives even coverage on the basket geometry — the inside faces of the claws, the open sides of the basket, the disc base, and the screw-back nut. Machine dipping misses the recessed surfaces. Hand application covers everything.

Rhodium is harder than gold and sits as a barrier between the silver and the air. Conservative baseline for this finish: three years of regular daily wear before any fading is noticeable. Many José Lux customers re-plate after five years. Some have gone eight years before the first re-plate. Skin chemistry, wear frequency, and chemical exposure all affect the timeline. Re-plating is always free at José Lux — no time limit, no conditions.

Warranty and Repairs

Every stone on a José Lux stud earring is set and checked before it ships. Stone loss from normal daily wear is extremely rare. That's the result of correct bench work.

If the Swiss CZ stone comes loose under everyday use — no drops, no impacts, just daily wear — José Lux handles it:

  • Swiss CZ stone re-setting: Always free. José Lux imports CZ in volume and absorbs the cost entirely.
  • Rhodium re-plating: Always free at the José Lux workshop. No time limit. No conditions.
  • Post or screw-back replacement: If a silver component fails under normal use, José Lux replaces it free.

What's not covered: stones lost due to hard physical impact — an earring dropped from height, struck against a hard surface, or showing visible claw deformation from a fall. José Lux inspects each case individually. If a repair falls outside the warranty, we'll still fix it — at cost, with a clear quote before anything is done.

Shipping

Free via USPS to the United States and Europe. Tracking sent the day your order ships. Estimated delivery 7–14 business days. European orders can see customs delays — José Lux states that honestly rather than promise a window we can't control.

Every shipment is 100% insured. If something goes wrong in transit — lost, delayed, or damaged — you're covered in full. Even if an incorrect address was entered at checkout, a full refund is issued. You either receive your earrings in perfect condition or you get your money back.

Your earrings ship in two layers: the inner box holds the earrings securely with anti-shock protection; the outer box protects everything in transit. Inside every order: a silver polishing cloth and a José Lux workshop warranty card.

Our Workshop

Our workshop is in Vietnam. The artisans who set large CZ solitaires, check the four-claw tension on both earrings in a pair, fabricate the screw-back closures from sterling silver, and hand-plate the rhodium finish have been doing this work for years — longer than most jewelry brands have been selling online.

A large solitaire looks simple. One stone, one mount. The work is in the precision. The stone has to sit centered and level. The claws have to be even in height and tension. The disc base has to be properly gauged to support the basket weight without flexing. The rhodium has to cover the inside faces of the open basket, not just the outside. Every earring is checked before it ships. We've set enough large-stone solitaires to know what right looks like. These meet that standard.

Your Earrings Arrive Protected — Two-Layer Box Packaging, USPS Insured

Your earrings ship in two layers of packaging. The inner jewelry box holds each earring securely in place. The outer box protects everything during transit. On top of that, the earrings themselves are wrapped in a shock-absorbing layer before they go into the box — so there's no movement, no impact damage, nothing shifts in transit.

Shipping is via USPS with 100% jewelry insurance on every order. If something goes wrong in transit — lost, delayed, damaged — we cover it. Even if an address was entered incorrectly at checkout, José Lux refunds you in full. You either receive your earrings in perfect condition, or you get your money back. That's the José Lux standard.

FAQ

Is this stone Moissanite or CZ — and does the size make a difference to that choice?

Swiss CZ — cubic zirconia, lab-created, sourced from Switzerland. Not Moissanite. José Lux states this clearly because we want you to know exactly what you're buying. On a large stone, the choice matters in a specific way. Moissanite has more fire — stronger rainbow color dispersion — than CZ. On a small stone, that fire is a feature. On a large stone worn daily, some people find it reads as too flashy against a neutral outfit. Swiss CZ on a large stone reads as strong, clean white brilliance. Bright without the color scatter. It's a different aesthetic, and for some wearers at this stone size, it's the better one. If you specifically want Moissanite fire in a large earring stone, José Lux makes GRA-certified Moissanite earrings at this size range. This earring uses Swiss CZ by design.

What is a four-claw basket mount and why does it matter for a large stone?

A basket mount holds the stone in a cup-shaped structure — the 'basket' — with open sides. Four claws at the top grip the stone at the girdle. The basket lifts the stone above the disc base, with open gaps on all sides. Those open sides matter. Light enters the pavilion of the stone laterally — from the side — travels through the facets, and exits through the crown table. A bezel or closed mount blocks that side light. An open basket maximizes it. On a large stone, more light movement means more brightness. The basket mount is the correct setting for a large solitaire CZ.

How does a large CZ stud look on the ear versus a smaller stone?

Significantly more present. A small solitaire CZ reads as a clean, understated stud. A large solitaire CZ reads as a statement earring. On the ear, the stone occupies visible real estate. In direct light it flashes hard. In ambient light it holds a steady, prominent sparkle. The four-claw mount keeps the stone elevated, which means it catches light from the side as well as from above — the stone looks alive at more angles than a low-set stone would. If you want something subtle, this earring isn't it. If you want a strong, single-stone look that reads across a table, this earring does that.

Why screw-back instead of butterfly push-back on a large stone?

Weight. A large CZ stone is heavier than a small one. A butterfly push-back holds the post by spring friction — that friction has to support the earring's weight throughout the day. As the spring weakens over time, a heavier earring is more likely to tilt or loosen than a lighter one. A screw-back threads mechanically onto the post. The lock doesn't depend on spring tension. It holds the same way whether the stone is large or small. For a large solitaire worn daily, the screw-back is the right closure.

How do I keep a large CZ stud looking its best?

Large stones accumulate residue faster than small ones because there's more surface area above the disc — under the stone, inside the basket sides, around the claw bases. Remove the screw-back and clean the full mount regularly. Soft brush, warm water, mild soap. Work the bristles under the stone through the open basket sides. Rinse thoroughly. Dry completely before reattaching. Avoid perfume and hairspray directly on the stone — let both dry completely before putting the earrings on. That routine takes two minutes and keeps the stone bright for years.

How long does the plating last?

Conservative baseline: three years of regular daily wear before any fading is noticeable. Many José Lux customers re-plate after five years. The longest we've recorded before a first re-plate: eight years of daily wear. Skin chemistry, wear frequency, and chemical exposure all affect the timeline. Re-plating is always free at José Lux. No time limit. Ship them back whenever the finish needs refreshing.

What does the warranty cover?

If the Swiss CZ stone comes loose under normal daily wear — no drops, no impacts — José Lux re-sets it for free. CZ re-setting is always free. Rhodium re-plating is always free, no time limit. Post or screw-back replacement is free if a silver component fails under normal use. What's not covered: stones lost from a drop or hard impact, or visible claw deformation from a fall. José Lux inspects each case individually. If a repair falls outside the warranty, we quote the cost clearly before any work is done.

Where are these earrings made?
