The Stones — Full Pavé Moissanite, Double Row, Round Brilliant

The entire outer face of this huggie is set in Moissanite — two parallel rows of round brilliant stones running the full arc of the band. The setting is micro-pavé: stones are individually hand-set into seats cut directly into the silver, held by tiny beaded prongs between each stone. The result is a continuous stone surface with no visible gaps and no plain metal showing on the front face.

Every stone is Moissanite — lab-created silicon carbide. Not diamond. The optical character is its own: more fire than diamond, which means stronger rainbow dispersion in directional light. In a full-coverage pavé layout, that fire reads across the entire band. In direct sunlight, the double row throws full-width flashes. In indoor light, it reads as a dense, bright, white surface.

Moissanite does not cloud, dull, or degrade over time the way CZ does. The stones on this earring will look the same in ten years as they do on day one. That is a material property, not a claim.

Micro-pavé on a curved, hinged surface is demanding bench work. The stones have to sit level on a curve and hold through the repeated open-and-close flex of a hinged earring. Our bench artisans in Vietnam have been doing this specific work for years. Each stone is individually seated and checked. The earring is then inspected as a whole under magnification before it ships.

The Band and Hinge Clasp

The band is wide-format — wider than a standard thin huggie, designed to carry two full rows of stones without crowding. The width is structural: it gives each row of Moissanite the correct spacing to sit flat and catch light independently. A narrow huggie cannot hold this stone layout cleanly. This band is sized to do the job right.

The hinge is built into the body of the earring at the top. It opens and closes with a firm click. The two halves of the hoop meet precisely at the base and lock without play or rattle. Once closed, the earring holds its position against the ear without shifting.

The hinge mechanism is fully openable for cleaning. Open the clasp, remove the earring, clean the inner surface and the hinge point. Close it. The mechanism is built to be operated daily for years without failure. If the hinge develops a fault under normal use, José Lux repairs it free of charge.

The inner surface of the band is smooth, polished silver. No stone settings or prong edges on the inside face. It sits flat against the earlobe without catching or irritating.

The Clasp — Solid, Openable, Fully Cleanable

The huggie closes with an integrated hinged clasp at the base of the hoop. The clasp snaps shut with a firm, audible click and does not release without deliberate pressure on both sides. It does not open accidentally during wear, exercise, or sleep.

The clasp is designed to be opened fully. This matters for cleaning. Unclip the earring, open the hoop, clean the hinge point and inner band surface, close and reclip. The mechanism is fully accessible — nothing is sealed or inaccessible. For an earring worn daily, the ability to clean every surface is not optional. We built it that way.

The clasp components are 925 sterling silver throughout. No coated brass. No plated alloy at the contact points. The metal touching your ear is the same material as the rest of the earring.

The Metal and Plating

The band, hinge, clasp, and inner surface are 925 sterling silver — 92.5% pure silver, 7.5% copper for structural rigidity. Every earring receives a rhodium plated white gold finish applied by hand at our workshop in Vietnam. Not machine-dipped. The artisans doing this work have been plating silver for years. Hand application gives more even coverage on curved surfaces and around the individual bead prongs of the pavé face — the points where machine dipping underperforms.

Rhodium is harder than silver and acts as a barrier between the metal and the air. It keeps the surface bright white and resists tarnish. Conservative baseline: three years of regular daily wear before any fading is noticeable. In practice, many José Lux customers re-plate after five years. Some have recorded eight years of daily wear before the first re-plate. Skin chemistry, wear frequency, and exposure to chemicals all affect the timeline.

Every stone in the pavé face is hand-seated and individually inspected before this earring ships. Stone loss from normal daily huggie wear is extremely rare. That’s by design.
