The mount is a crown: ten prongs rising from a filigree basket base with decorative arched cutouts running the full circumference of the setting. The stone is the same as our solitaire line — GRA-certified Moissanite, 6mm, 0.8ct, Color D, Clarity FL — but the mount it sits in has a different character. From the front, it reads as a solitaire. From the side and below, the cutout crown base is visible. The architecture of the mount is part of the design.

The Stone — GRA Moissanite, 6mm, 0.8ct, Color D, Clarity FL

The stone is Moissanite — 6mm round brilliant, 0.8 carat equivalent weight, GRA-certified. Color D: colorless, the highest color grade on the scale. Clarity FL: internally flawless under 10x magnification. Cut: Excellent. 58 facets. Moissanite is lab-created silicon carbide. Not diamond. It has more fire than diamond — stronger rainbow dispersion in directional light. A 6mm 0.8ct stone in an open crown mount catches light from more angles than the same stone in a plain disc setting. The filigree base of this mount means there is no solid silver blocking the pavilion from below. Light enters from the sides and underneath, which increases the directional fire visible at low angles.

Moissanite does not degrade optically over time. The stone on this earring looks the same in ten years as on day one. That is a property of silicon carbide.

The Crown Mount — Ten Prongs, Filigree Basket, Decorative Base

The mount has ten prongs. At 0.8ct and 6mm, ten prongs give maximum distributed holding contact around the girdle. The prong tips sit at the stone’s girdle, evenly spaced at 45-degree intervals around the full circumference. Under the stone, the base of the mount is a filigree basket — a cylindrical silver form with arched cutout windows running the full height of the base, separated by solid vertical ribs.

The cutout windows serve two purposes. Optically: they allow light to enter the pavilion from below the stone, which increases the fire visible when looking at the earring from a low angle or in profile. Structurally: the ribs between the windows carry the load from the prongs down to the disc, while the openings keep the overall weight of the mount low.

The crown profile is visible from the side. When the earring is on the ear and someone looks at it in profile, they see the cylindrical basket below the stone. That profile is the design distinction between this earring and a standard solitaire stud. From the front, it reads as a solitaire. From the side, the mount is visible. That dual read is intentional.

Every prong on this ten-prong crown mount is hand-adjusted and push-tested at our Vietnam workshop before the earring ships. Each prong tip is checked for level seat against the stone’s girdle under magnification. The prong tension on an eight-prong mount has to be even across all eight contact points. A stone that rocks or sits off-level in the mount is a setting failure. We check for it on every piece.

The Post and Butterfly Push-Back Closure

The post and butterfly closure are fully 925 sterling silver. Solid silver at every contact point — not a plated brass post, not an alloy stem. The metal touching your ear is the same material as the crown mount.

The butterfly closure is hand-formed and tensioned at our Vietnam workshop. The two wings are individually shaped to grip the post at the correct resistance: firm enough to hold through movement, exercise, and sleep, releasing cleanly when you pinch both wings and pull straight back off the post. The threading on the post handles repeated daily removal and reattachment without degrading.

The closure is fully removable. Take it off completely whenever you need to clean the post, the rear of the disc, or the inside of the filigree basket. The open basket base of this mount means the inside surfaces are accessible to a soft brush during cleaning — nothing is enclosed or sealed. This is the closure we use on our stud earrings because it combines holding security with a mechanism built for daily use over years.

GRA Certification

The stone ships with a GRA Moissanite Grading Report — one physical document per stone. The report confirms: stone type (Moissanite), shape (Round Brilliant), measurements (6mm), carat weight (0.8ct), color grade (D — Colorless), clarity grade (FL — Internally Flawless), cut grade (Excellent). The Metal and Plating

The crown mount, basket base, prongs, disc, and post are 925 sterling silver — 92.5% pure silver, 7.5% copper for structural rigidity. Every earring receives a rhodium plated white gold finish applied by hand at our workshop in Vietnam. Not machine-dipped. Hand application gives even coverage at the detail points of this particular mount: the arched cutout edges inside the basket, the ten individual prong shafts, the decorative rim at the top of the basket where it meets the prongs.

Rhodium is harder than silver and acts as a barrier between the metal and the air. It keeps the surface bright white and resists tarnish. Our Workshop

Our workshop is in Vietnam. Plating a crown mount is not the same as plating a flat disc. The filigree basket has interior surfaces — the inside edges of the arched cutouts, the inner walls of the basket, the underside of the stone seat. Machine dipping gets the exterior. Hand application by our plating artisans gets everything. That’s why we plate by hand.

Setting the stone in a ten-prong crown mount requires even tension across all ten contact points simultaneously. Each prong tip is checked individually under magnification and push-tested against the stone. One prong set too loose and the stone develops play. One prong set too tight and it risks cracking the girdle. Our bench artisans have been doing this specific work for years. We’ve done enough crown settings to know exactly where the work fails when it’s done incorrectly. Ours doesn’t, because every prong is set and checked before the earring leaves the workshop.
