Jose Lux has been setting Moissanite earrings for over a decade. The Cushion Halo Lever Back is one of the most architecturally deliberate designs we make — a round brilliant Moissanite center stone elevated in a four-prong mount, framed inside a cushion-shaped halo of Swiss CZ, the whole head sitting above a band of channel-set rectangular Swiss CZ running down the base. The rectangular stone row is what separates this band from a standard round pavé — it's a clean, structured line of Swiss CZ cut in rectangular form, set flush in a channel, giving the earring base a geometric weight that carries the cushion halo head above it.

The cushion halo is what names this design. It's not a round halo — the outer CZ stones are arranged so the halo face reads as a cushion: a square with softly curved corners. That silhouette frames the Moissanite center differently than a round halo does. It adds visual width and gives the earring a presence on the lobe that reads closer to an engagement ring head than a standard stud.

The lever back is built entirely from 925 sterling silver at our Vietnam workshop. It detaches fully from the earring body for cleaning. A cushion halo with a channel-set rectangular band is not easy to clean properly if the closure is in the way. That's why we built the detachment into the design. The hinge opens. The lever locks. The earring cleans properly.

The Center Stone — GRA Moissanite, Round Brilliant

The center stone is GRA-certified Moissanite — Color D, Clarity FL. Colorless and internally flawless. Round brilliant cut, 58 facets. Each stone ships with its own GRA certificate carrying a unique report ID traceable to your specific stone. Physical certificate. Not a card.

Moissanite is lab-created silicon carbide. It is not a diamond and we won't tell you it is. It has more fire than diamond — meaning more rainbow dispersion in directional light. In a cushion halo setting, that fire works particularly well. The center Moissanite sits elevated on a four-prong mount above the halo ring. It catches light from above and from the sides, independently from the CZ surrounding it. When the earring moves, the center fires. The halo holds steady white brightness around it. The contrast between those two behaviors is what makes the design read as stone-rich rather than flat.

In direct sunlight, the center stone throws strong rainbow flashes. In indoor lighting, it reads clear and bright. The four-prong mount keeps it elevated and open on all sides — no bezel wall, no partial obstruction. The stone is fully exposed to light from every angle.

The Swiss CZ Cushion Halo

The halo is a full ring of Swiss CZ — cubic zirconia, lab-created, sourced from Switzerland — arranged in a cushion formation around the center Moissanite. The outer stones are individually prong-set, each one positioned so the overall outline of the halo reads as a cushion square with softly curved corners rather than a circle.

That cushion shape is a deliberate setting choice. It widens the visual footprint of the earring face without simply scaling it up. A round halo of the same stone count reads smaller on the ear because the eye traces the circle. A cushion halo extends into the corners — the eye reads width and height simultaneously. On a lobe, that translates to an earring that looks significantly larger than its actual dimensions.

Swiss CZ is not Moissanite. Jose Lux states this plainly. CZ doesn't have Moissanite's fire. What well-sourced Swiss CZ has is clean, consistent brightness at a color grade that matches the D-grade Moissanite center. From a normal wearing distance, the halo reads as one cohesive piece with the center stone. Up close, the center fires distinctly. That's the correct behavior. The halo's job is to frame the Moissanite — not compete with it. Every halo stone is hand-set at our Vietnam workshop. Getting twelve or more CZ stones to follow a cushion outline — each one at the same depth and angle — requires individual positioning and individual prong adjustment. It's more bench time than a round halo. The cushion silhouette is why we do it.

The Rectangular Swiss CZ Band

The band beneath the cushion halo head is a row of rectangular Swiss CZ stones, channel-set flush into the silver base. Rectangular-cut stones — not round brilliant — set side by side in a clean horizontal line running down from the halo to the lever back. That's a deliberate cut choice.

Rectangular CZ reflects light differently than round brilliant CZ. It produces flat, mirror-like flashes rather than the broken sparkle of a brilliant cut. That behavior is not a limitation here — it's a contrast element. The round CZ stones of the cushion halo sparkle above. The rectangular CZ band below reflects in clean, even flashes. On the ear, the band reads as structured and architectural. The rectangular row gives the earring's lower half a clean geometric line that anchors the cushion halo head above it.

Getting a row of rectangular stones to sit flush in a channel takes precise bench work. Each stone has to be the right width for the channel, seated at the same depth, edge-to-edge without gaps or rocking. The channel walls have to be cut from thick enough silver to grip the stone edges without spreading under daily wear. This is Jose Lux's own workshop. The channel cutting and stone seating are done by hand. The bench time gets spent correctly.

The Lever Back Closure — Hinged Sterling Silver

The lever back is a hinged omega-style closure built entirely from 925 sterling silver. The hinge, lever arm, omega loop, and post are all silver — no plated brass, no base metal. Fabricated and assembled by hand at our Jose Lux workshop.

The mechanics are straightforward. Press the tab at the base of the lever arm — the omega loop opens. The post passes through the ear piercing. The lever arm closes the loop back around the post and clicks into the locked position. When closed, the earring has zero lateral movement. For a design with the head weight of a cushion halo plus a stone-set band, that lock is the correct closure. A friction push-back post on an earring this size would loosen during movement. A lever back doesn't.

The closure detaches fully from the earring body at a fitted joint between the lever mechanism and the band base. Detach the lever back and the full earring face — cushion halo, Moissanite center, rectangular CZ band — is open for cleaning on every surface. Warm water, a soft brush through every prong seat and channel groove, rinse clean. Reattach the lever back. The joint is fitted and holds securely through repeated removal and reattachment. This was a design decision, not an afterthought.

The Metal and Plating

The complete earring — halo frame, center prong mount, rectangular CZ channel, lever back assembly — is 925 sterling silver. 92.5% pure silver, 7.5% copper for structural rigidity. A cushion halo carries lateral stone load on all four sides simultaneously. The silver frame has to hold the halo stones in position without the outer walls flexing. The rectangular channel has to be cut from silver thick enough to grip the stone edges without spreading. Jose Lux uses properly gauged blanks. That's the difference between settings that hold at five years and settings that don't hold at five months.

Every earring gets a rhodium plated white gold finish applied by hand at our workshop in Vietnam. Not machine-dipped. Our artisans have been hand-plating silver for years. Hand application gives consistent coverage at the points that matter most on this design: the individual prong tips on the cushion halo, the inside corners of the cushion frame, the channel walls of the rectangular stone mount, and the hinge joint on the lever back. Machine dipping fills flat surfaces and misses recessed geometry. Hand application reaches all of it.

Rhodium is harder than gold and creates a barrier between the silver and the air. Conservative baseline for this finish: three years of regular daily wear before any fading is noticeable. In practice, many Jose Lux customers re-plate after five years. Some have gone eight years of daily wear before the first re-plate. Skin chemistry, wear frequency, and chemical exposure all affect the timeline. Re-plating is always free at Jose Lux — no time limit, no conditions.

Certification

Every pair ships with the full GRA gemological certificate for the Moissanite center stone — one certificate per earring, two certificates per pair. Each report confirms Color D, Clarity FL, Round Brilliant cut, and carries a unique report number traceable to your specific stone. Physical certificate. Not a card. If you ever want to verify the stone independently, the report number gives you everything you need to do that.

Warranty and Repairs

Every prong on a Jose Lux earring is hand-adjusted for tension before the piece ships. Stone loss from normal daily earring wear is extremely rare. That's by design, not luck.

If a stone does come loose under everyday use — no drops, no hard impacts, just daily wear — Jose Lux handles it:

  • Swiss CZ halo and band stones: Re-setting or replacing accent stones is always free. Jose Lux imports CZ in volume and absorbs the cost entirely.
  • Moissanite center stone: Re-setting labor is always free. If the stone needs replacement, charged at our Hong Kong import cost — never at retail.
  • Rhodium re-plating: Always free at the Jose Lux workshop. No time limit. No conditions.

What's not covered: stones lost due to hard physical impact — an earring dropped from height, struck against a hard surface, or showing visible prong or channel deformation consistent with a fall. Jose Lux inspects each case individually and communicates honestly about what's observed. If a repair falls outside the warranty, we'll still fix it — at cost, with a clear quote before anything is done.

Our Workshop

Our workshop is in Vietnam. The artisans who hand-set the Moissanite center stones, build and seat the cushion halo on both earrings to match, cut the rectangular CZ channels, fabricate the lever back closures from sterling silver, and hand-plate every surface have been doing this work for years.

A cushion halo is harder to execute consistently than a round halo. The corners have to be clean on both earrings. The cushion outline has to read the same on left and right. The rectangular channel has to be cut to exact depth — too shallow and the stone sits high; too deep and the channel walls won't grip. The lever back has to close flush and detach cleanly at the fitted joint. None of this is automated. Every adjustment happens at the bench, by hand, before the earring ships. We've done this design enough times to know exactly what it takes. The craft is consistent because the same artisans do this work every day.

Your Earrings Arrive Protected — Two-Layer Box Packaging, USPS Insured

Your earrings ship in two layers of packaging. The inner jewelry box holds each earring securely in place. The outer box protects everything during transit. On top of that, the earrings themselves are wrapped in a shock-absorbing layer before they go into the box — so there's no movement, no impact damage, nothing shifts in transit.

Shipping is via USPS with 100% jewelry insurance on every order. If something goes wrong in transit — lost, delayed, damaged — we cover it. Even if an address was entered incorrectly at checkout, José Lux refunds you in full. You either receive your earrings in perfect condition, or you get your money back. That's the José Lux standard.

FAQ

What makes this a cushion halo — how is it different from a round halo?

A round halo places stones in a circle. A cushion halo arranges the outer stones so the halo outline forms a square with softly curved corners. Those corners project outward of a circle, which means the halo extends into the diagonal space a round halo would leave open. On the ear, a cushion halo reads wider and more structured than a round halo of the same stone count. It adds visual real estate without increasing the stone size. The center Moissanite stays the focal point. The cushion frame around it gives the earring its architectural presence.

What are the band stones — why rectangular cut?

The band beneath the cushion halo is a row of rectangular-cut Swiss CZ stones, channel-set flush into the silver base. Rectangular-cut stones reflect light in flat, mirror-like flashes rather than the broken sparkle of a round brilliant cut. That behavior is a contrast element — the cushion halo above sparkles; the rectangular band below reflects in clean, even flashes. Together the two stone cuts create an earring that reads as deliberately structured, not just layered with more of the same stones. The rectangular channel also requires precise bench work: each stone has to be width-matched to the channel and seated at the same depth, flush and without rocking. Jose Lux cuts and sets this by hand at our Vietnam workshop.

Can I remove the lever back for cleaning?

Yes. The lever back assembly detaches fully from the earring body at a fitted joint between the lever mechanism and the band base. A cushion halo with a rectangular channel band has multiple stone-setting geometries that need cleaning access: the individual prong seats on the halo, the inside corners of the cushion frame, the channel groove of the rectangular band. With the lever back detached, you can use a soft brush on every surface without obstruction. Warm water, mild soap, soft brush, rinse thoroughly. Reattach the lever back — the joint holds securely through regular removal and reattachment.

How does this earring look on the ear?

The cushion halo face is wider than a round stud of equivalent stone size. The corners extend toward the diagonal, giving the earring a structured square-ish silhouette that reads clearly at distance. The center Moissanite fires independently from the surrounding CZ — in direct light, the center throws rainbow color while the halo holds steady white brightness around it. The rectangular CZ band beneath reflects in clean flat flashes, anchoring the earring's lower half. The rhodium plated white gold finish is mirror-bright across everything. On the ear, this earring reads as architectural and stone-rich. The cushion silhouette and rectangular band together are its defining visual.

How long does the plating last?

Conservative baseline: three years of regular daily wear before any fading is noticeable. Many Jose Lux customers re-plate after five years. The longest we've recorded before a first re-plate: eight years of daily wear. Skin chemistry, wear frequency, and whether you take them off around chemicals all affect the timeline. Re-plating is always free at Jose Lux. No time limit. Ship them back to us whenever the finish needs refreshing and we take care of it.

What does the warranty cover?

Prong settings on Jose Lux earrings are built to hold — stone loss from normal daily wear is extremely rare. If it happens with no evidence of impact damage: Swiss CZ halo and band stones are re-set for free, no exceptions. Moissanite re-setting labor is always free; replacement stone is charged at our Hong Kong import cost only, never at retail. Re-plating is always free, no time limit. What's not covered: visible prong or channel deformation from a drop or hard impact. Jose Lux inspects each case. If a repair falls outside the warranty, we quote the cost clearly before any work is done.

How does shipping work?

Free USPS to the United States and Europe. Tracking sent the day your order ships. Estimated 7–14 business days. European orders can see customs delays — Jose Lux is honest about that rather than promising a window we can't control. Every shipment is 100% insured. If something goes wrong in transit for any reason, including an incorrect delivery address, a full refund is issued.

Where are these earrings made?

Handmade at the Jose Lux workshop in Vietnam. The artisans who set the center Moissanite, individually position each cushion halo stone, cut and set the rectangular CZ channel band, build the lever back from silver, and hand-plate every surface have been doing this work for years — longer than most jewelry brands have been selling online. A cushion halo with a rectangular channel band requires more precise positioning than a standard round halo. Getting the cushion corners clean on both earrings — and getting the rectangular channel cut and seated correctly — is the work. This is Jose Lux's own workshop, not a third-party factory.
